How to choose epoxy resin when purchasing?

Epoxy resin is a kind of composite material, which is made of epoxy resin, curing agent and special fillers as base materials, and is resistant to erosion and damage. Epoxy resins can be used in general and additives at the same time to obtain research value for development and application. Additives can be analyzed and selected according to their different economic purposes. Due to the different uses of epoxy resins for performance design requirements, there are also many different requirements for epoxy resins and additives such as curing agents, modifiers, fillers, and thinners. The selection teaching methods for studying them are briefly described below:

1. Choose from the purpose

Resins with medium epoxy value (0.25-0.45), such as 6101 and 634, should be used as adhesives. Castables should be resins with high epoxy value (> 0.40), such as 618 and 6101. Typically, resins with low epoxy values (< 0.25) such as 601, 604, 607, 609 are used as coatings.

2. Select the mechanical strength

The resin with too high epoxy value is stronger, but more brittle. The epoxy value is medium, and the high and low temperature strength is good; the lower the epoxy value, the lower the high temperature strength. Because the strength is related to the degree of cross-linking, the degree of cross-linking is high after curing with high epoxy value, and the degree of cross-linking is low after curing with low epoxy value, resulting in the difference in strength.

3. Choose from the operational capability requirements

No high temperature is required, and the strength is not required. It is hoped that the epoxy resin can dry quickly and is not easy to lose, so you can choose a resin with a lower epoxy value; if you want good permeability and good strength, you can choose a resin with a higher epoxy value.
